Sandy Cadet Trains to Lead

An Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron recently spent her weekend developing and mastering new skills to help them progress through the ranks in the Air Cadets.

Cadet Rebecca Hammond, 15, attended a Junior Non-Commission Officer (JNCO) Course at RAF Henlow, run by the Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Wing Training team.

The course running from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon saw the cadets learning how to give drill commands, lessons on the role of a JNCO, presentation skills, leadership styles, Getting Things Done, Core Corps knowledge and Expected standards.

Throughout the weekend the cadets were tested on Drill, Core Corps knowledge, Presentations and a series of leadership and team exercises. In between the assessments there were also opportunities to have a question and answer session with the Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Antony Kelly RAF VR(T).

Cadet Hammond said on completing the course, “I found the course a great opportunity to broaden my skills and knowledge as a cadet. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, especially the discussion with the Wing Commander”
