Sandy Cadets Celebrate Rewarding Year

On Thursday 15th December, Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron held its annual awards evening in front of parents and guests.

The evening started with a comical continuity drill routine, performed by a small group of cadets. There was also a first aid scenario played out, and a demonstration of fieldcraft. There were also presentations of some of the activities the cadets have done this year.

The Citizenship Award, which went to Cadet Sam Keeble (15), in recognition of his effort at events such as the RAFA wings appeal, bag packing and many more throughout the year. The Media & Communications Trophy was also awarded to Sam, who over the year has contributed to the squadron’s PR activities.

The Sports Cup was awarded to Cadet William Clubb (15), who has excelled in the field of sport, representing the wing at sports. The Buccaneer Trophy, which is awarded to best new recruit, was awarded to Cadet Matthew Randall (16). The Education Award went to Cadet Gursimar Dhillon (15) for achieving the highest mark in this year’s cadet exams.

Cadet Sergeant Joshua Bruce (17) received the Drill Cup for this year leading the drill team. The Modelling Trophy went to Cadet Elliot Hall (15), for winning a gold medal at this year’s Wing aero modelling competition. Cadet Lauren Barton (14) received the Tempsford Trophy, for her effort at fundraising over the year.

The CO’s Shield, which is awarded by the Squadron Commanding Officer, went to Cadet Jessica Gouveia (14) for her hard work and enthusiasm since joining the squadron. Certificates of Commendation were also awarded to Cadet Ben Kilby (15), and Cadet Evelyn Harris (14), in recognition of their effort and hard work to the squadron.

The prestigious Cadet of the year award, this year was awarded to Cadet Corporal Laura Dorrell (15). Over the last year Laura has been an active member of the Squadron, taking part in most activities, and has shown dedication to the Squadron.

Cadet Corporal Laura Dorrell said, “It was such a shock when my name was called out for this award, it’s something I’m really proud to achieve. Well done to everyone that got Awards tonight, you should all be very proud of yourselves. To those who didn't get awards, you are all still a credit to the squadron”.
