Sandy Cadet Bids Farewell

Air Cadets and staff from 22 (Sandy) Squadron last week said farewell to Cadet Flight Sergeant Akeel Shaikh (20), after seven years with the squadron.

Joining the squadron at 13 years old, Akeel has now reached the upper age limit of 20, and has to leaving the squadron. In his time as a cadet, Akeel has had many accomplishments, including completing a gliding scholarship to earn his blue wings, passing his staff cadet examinations, and reaching the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant.

He has also attended a parachuting course, completed the Frimley Park leadership course and attended numerous camps across the United Kingdom.

One of Akeel’s most noticeable accomplishments was this year when after attending a week long camp, completed the London Marathon the day after, followed by completing the physically demanding Air Cadet Leaders Course only shortly after the Marathon.

Flight Lieutenant Mark Robinson RAFVR(T), commented, “Akeel has been a key member of the squadron for many years and will be sadly missed. In the two years I’ve been at the Squadron, Akeel has shown huge amounts of dedication, and I hope he will stay in contact with the Squadron in the future”.

Akeel is now planning on going to university this year studying Mathematics. The squadron hopes him all the best for the future.
