Sandy cadets make the team

Hockey trialsThree Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron were recently selected for the Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire wing Hockey team, after successfully making it through the selection trials at Bassingbourn Barracks.

Cadet Corporal Joshua Bruce (16) and Cadet Corporal James Day (17) were both selected to join the boys team, with Cadet Laura Dorrell (13) being selected as goalkeeper for the junior girls team.

The trials involve the cadets under taking a number of hockey challenges to test their hockey skills, and teamwork abilities, with only eleven being selected for each of the boys and girls teams. Cadet Dorrell was selected as a goalkeeper after never having played hockey before, but quickly took to the role. They will all be playing in the wing teams at RAF Cranwell during the October competition.

Cadet Corporal Joshua Bruce commented “I am so pleased to have made the wing hockey team. For the squadron to get three in the team was brilliant, as there were a lot of people who didn’t make it through”.
