Sandy Cadet joins historic celebration

Cadet 150An Air Cadet from 22 (Sandy) Squadron recently attended a parade and garden party at Buckingham Palace in celebration of 150 years of the cadet movement.

Cadet Sergeant Kim Coates (16), a student at Sandy Upper School, was one of only seventeen honoured cadets selected to attend the event from Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire. The event saw the Army Cadets, Sea Cadets, Combined Cadet Force and Air Cadets from across the country join together to celebrate 150 years of the cadet movement.

Starting from the famous Horse Guards parade ground, the cadets marched up the mall to Wellington Barracks, with a flypast being supplied by the Red Arrows aerobatic display team. The Prince of Wales took the salute during the march past. After the parade the cadets moved into the gardens of Buckingham Palace where they were able to enjoy refreshments and music from a number of military bands.

Cadet Sergeant Coates said “This has been a very memorable day. You don’t often get the chance to visit Buckingham Palace, so it’s been one amazing opportunity”.
