Sandy Cadets Track Success

Wing AthleticsOn Sunday 9th May, cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron won medals during the annual Wing Athletics competition, competing against cadets from across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

With almost 300 cadets competing for medals, Sandy cadets sporting their new black & orange squadron T-shirts, fought hard throughout the day, with some cadet just missing out on medals. Cadet Sergeant Kim Coates (16) managed to gain a silver medal in the Class E Junior Women’s 1500 metres for the second year in a row, as well as gaining bronze in the 800 metres.

Cadet Sergeant Kim Coates said, “It was great to get a medal in the 1500 metres for the second year, just missing out on gold. Bronze in the 800 metres was an added bonus”.

The squadron also saw success off the track, with Cadet Simon Parsons (15) receiving bronze in the Class B Youths Javelin event, and Cadet Corporal James Day (16) receiving bronze in the Class C Junior Men’s Long Jump.

Cadet Corporal James Day commented, “With such strong competition, I never thought that I would win a medal. I was quite surprised when my name was called during the parade”.
