Sandy Civic Service

On Sunday 15th May, Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron attend the Mayor’s Civic Service at St. Swithun church Sandy, providing a guard of honour.

The service, held to mark the retirement of the old town council, and the start of the new council, saw the cadets provide the guard of honour for outgoing Mayor of Sandy, Cllr Geoff White, along with his honoured guests, including the High Sherriff of Bedfordshire, Mr Andrew Slack.

During the church service, the cadets also took the church collection, before reforming to give the guard of honour at the end of the service. After the service, the cadets joined the guest for refreshments, taking time to talk to those in attendance.

Cadet Joseph Smith (15) said, “It’s great to be able to be a part of the guard of honour. It was also great to get to talk to all guests afterwards. Many were interested to know more about what we do”.

Adult Sergeant Paul Redman comment, “The cadets have done a tremendous job for the squadron and the town. There have been a lot of good comments about the cadets today, and they should be proud of what they do”.
