Action Packed Week for Sandy Cadets

Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron where recently treated to a week of activities during their half term holidays, including a visit to the RAF’s latest fast jet.

Cadet in Typhoon CockpitThe activities started on Tuesday 26th, with a visit to RAF Henlow, where the cadet visited the gym and swimming pool for a morning of activity, with a tour around the aircraft hangers in the afternoon.

Thursday saw the cadets take a visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, home of the RAF’s newest fighter/bomber, the Eurofighter Typhoon. The cadets were shown a video about the aircraft, before being given a guided tour around this amazing aircraft. The cadets even had the chance to sit inside the cockpit.

While at RAF Coningsby,the cadets also took the opportunity to look around the aircraft of the Battle of Britain memorial flight, which include iconic aircraft such as the Spitfire and Hurricane. On returning from the visit, the cadets spent the evening at RAF Henlow, undertaking Kayak training in the swimming, along with a fun game of water polo.

Friday was spent visiting the RAF museum at Hendon, to learn about the history of the RAF, with a guided tour being given by a squadron member of staff, who himself served with the Royal Air Force.

Cadet Sam Neighbour said, “This has been an amazing week. There has been so much to do, and I have learnt a lot about the RAF, both past and present. This week has been unforgettable!!”
